Screencast, Instagram and Flipagram

Screencast-o-matic

Screencast-o-matic was very easy to use. I had seen several videos done by my professors and I never knew that making a video could be that simple. I am really excited about using this to create short tutorials for students and teachers about library resources available. Showing them exactly where to look and click will have a tremendous impact on the actual usage of the resources. I can email the link to them or even embedded them on my library webpage for everyone to see and use. Here is a link to my first screencast:

Instagram


Instagram can be a great tool to use for promoting events happening at your library. This year I used it to promote our display of Bluebonnet Books. Although I currently don't have an Instagram for my library I do have a personal account. I am hoping to start a library Instagram account, once I get clearance from my district. Instagram seems to be more popular than Facebook amongst young users, therefore it would be a great way to stay connected with students and parents.


Flipagram

This was my first time using flipagram and I really enjoyed it. Four weeks ago we began observing the life cycle of a butterfly at the library. I had documented the progress with photograph but with this app I was able to create a video. It was very easy to use. I feel that I can use this to create short videos of the wonderful things that are happening at the library to share with students, parents and staff. I can then embed the videos into my library newsletter! Here is a link to my first flipagram:

My Favorite:

This is really hard! When I began this assignment I was really scared about making a screencast but I quickly realized that it was very easy to use. I can see many uses for this app. I see it more as an instructional tool. I then moved into Instagram, and since I've had a personal account for sometime now I knew how to use it. I would love to have an Instagram account for my library one day in order to share all the wonderful things happening. Finally, I played around with Flipagram and I immediately feel in love with it! This app is great for making short videos to share. Overall I felt that they each have something great to offer and I plan to use all three at my library.

    I agree with your comment about having to choose one program over the other they are all great in different ways and useful to any teacher or librarian.

    It was hard for me to also just choose one as a favorite. There was so many good things about each one. I truly enjoyed Screencast-o-matic. I plan to use this a lot to do staff development for teachers.

    I really enjoyed Flipagram. Instagam of course is my favorite since I have a personal accout also. As far as Screencast, I still need some time to get acquainted with it.

    I loved your MackinVia screencast. Although my library uses Destiny, I was inspired to see if I am able to connect the TexQuest databases to the catalog at my school as well. Great job!

Final Reflection

Looking back at this semester I can honestly say that I have gain a wealth of knowledge from this course. Before this course I was familiar with some of the components included in the modules, yet I was introduced to many things that I had never used or felt comfortable using in my library before. Being able to see the blogs of my classmates allowed me to see different perspectives and ways of implementing this new technology in my library. Which new technologies excited me the most?  Although I really enjoyed and learned from all the assignments my favorite was creating cartoons and comics. There are just so many different ways that you can use them. Graphic novels are extremely popular at my library right now, and this could be a great way to have students create their own and share with others. I also really liked Flipagram. This was my first time hearing about this app and I liked the ease of use. I plan to use it in my library newsletters. I found QR codes to be really neat...
